Installation of PVC skirting boards

After the repair is usually the turn of the installation of any imperceptible, but often very important trifles. Always want to add something special to the bathroom, which would have made it stand out among the standard baths of other people. This can help the PVC skirting board. This

baseboard, besides its decorative, performs important functions such as sealing the space between the wall and the bath.

Installation of PVC skirting boards

By mounting different types of sides, you can perform several functions at once. First, the scenery, and secondly, drainage. Due to the fact that in modern stores a huge amount of materials and samples of various items, you need to know how to choose the correct PVC skirting for the bathroom.

Types of existing PVC skirting boards

There are two types of skirting boards.

  • Plastic in the form of a corner.
  • Self-adhesive in the form of rollers
  • Many will start asking questions which one is better to take and what is the difference. In fact, the difference is small. The answer to both of these questions is easy: the difference, as always, in the price and purpose. Plastic baseboards are much cheaper than self-adhesive "brothers", and, accordingly, the turmoil with them will be a little more. In addition, the main difference lies in the fact that self-adhesive plinths perform their direct function, namely sealing, because they contain in the adhesive both sealant and silicone, which provide sealing;And as for the sides of the plastic, they perform only a decorative function and help to hide underneath the layers of sealant and silicone.

    Installation of PVC skirting boards

    Therefore, if you choose a good baseboards, it is better to buy a PVC skirting with a self-adhesive system. It does not require anything superfluous. No difficulty in installation and installation. The only thing that's needed for it is a relatively smooth surface to create a better sealing effect.

    However, it should be borne in mind that the use of this type of curtain is possible only when it is necessary to seal or decorate the floor. For a bath such plinth is not suitable because the glue contained in it can be detached from the baseboard due to the constant humidity in the room.

    If, however, the budget does not allow you to buy high-quality expensive materials, then it's great for PVC, a plinth in the form of a corner. Its advantages include decorative and additions to the design. The only thing you will need to do is firstly seal and level the surface.

    What it requires

    It happens that the bathroom façade with a wall cladding is not dense and sealed. As a result, this space begins to drain and oozing down the water.

    In this case, you will need a special PVC skirting, which will reliably protect this "seam" from moisture entrapment. The main thing is to fill the space with sealant first and then install the baseboard.

    It is a danger of ignoring this fact by the fact that water flows continuously into the slit first on the floor and then begins to leak out to the neighbors from below. Therefore, in order to avoid various conflicts and unnecessary costs, it is desirable to pay much attention to this item.

    In case the bath is very close to the wall covering, PVC can be replaced with other materials, for example:

    • solid plastic corner;
    • baseboard of wood, covered with primer and enamel;
    • solid monolithic skirting.

    This is explained by the fact that this space between the bath and the wall does not require sealing. Therefore, the baseboard can only be used as a scenery.

    Installation Instructions

    First of all, the following materials and tools will be required for the works:

    • PVC skirting( corner) - 3 meters on average;
    • sealant;
    • construction gun;
    • Roulette;
    • primer;
    • silicone;
    • Galaxy;
    • paint tape.

    Installation of PVC skirting requires work in several stages, the observance of which is necessary in order not to have to re-process. Stages of work are carried out in the following sequence.

    Installation of PVC skirting boards

  • Selection and purchase of skirting boards. For the whole bath you need to buy 2-3 skirting boards, each length about 1,5 m.
  • At the next step, the seam between the bath and the wall must be thoroughly treated. This means that if there is an old baseboard or sealant, then it will necessarily need to be completely removed.
  • Next, you need to clean the seam from rot, old sealant or glue. To do this, either a chisel, or a spatula, or an ordinary knife, and gently, trying not to scratch the surface, you must slowly clean all grooves from garbage and dirt. After that you need to take a regular damp sponge and rinse everything that has just been cleaned. It is advisable to pre-soak the sponge in water with chlorine to disinfect various bacteria and insects. After wiping, you will have to wait until the seam dries completely. To accelerate the process, you can take an ordinary hair dryer and dry the space much faster.
  • The next step is to measure the length of the bath with a roulette and, accordingly, measure the same length on the baseboard. The floor under the bath can also be measured using a roulette and apply the dimensions to the skirting.
  • It is necessary to cut the corresponding length of the baseboard at an angle of 45º on both sides. The work is carried out using a joiner's knife, and the surface is aligned.
  • Then you need to put the baseboard on the bath and see it is placed in length and thickness in the hole.
  • The next step is to stick the adhesive tape over the entire length of the skirting to the wall to tighten it tightly. In order not to contaminate the floor and the bathroom, you need to put on top of the surface or newspapers, or polyethylene. Scotch should be glued to the bath at least 2 mm, retreating to the wall.
  • Then you need to remove the baseboards, and it turns out that the tape will remain on the wall.
  • It is necessary to use a construction piston to apply a layer of sealing foam along the space of the future skirting, not exceeding the height of adhesive tape glued to the wall. Apply it to a thin layer, but without spaces.
  • The baseboard is pressed back to the wall - already to the foam layer. It must be taken into account that the floor and skirting should be relative to each other absolutely parallel. Press the baseboard carefully and evenly to the wall, and to the bath. Then wait 20 minutes until the foam is completely dry.
  • Once the baseboard has been applied to the wall, it is necessary at least once in 10 minutes to press it again, as foam has the property to expand. After you make sure the foam is completely dry, you can safely remove its excess.
  • After this, it is necessary to treat all seams with a transparent silicone sealant where the plinth with the wall has been docked. In order not to contaminate the bath and baseboard, glue again the paint tape.
  • The floorboard is laid in the same sequence as the bath. Retraction should take about 2 mm from the wall and install the baseboard to it. It is important to take into account that the sealant must be squeezed until the entire seam is filled - no more or less. Thus, it is clear from the written, that to equip the baseboard bathroom and the floor of the room is quite easy.
