- Disease Of The Skin
Exudative erythema multiforme is a severe disease that affects skin and mucous membranes. Characterized by the tendency to relapse and polymorphic rashes. Often, erythema multiforme is diagnosed in young people, as well as in children.
Important!Multivariate erythema is a fairly common disease, more often than not, recurrence of the disease occurs during the off-season.
Development of exudative erythema may be due to an infectious disease or an increased sensitivity of the body to various drugs. In the first case, we will talk about idiopathic or infectious-allergic varieties of the disease, and in the second about the symptomatic( otherwise, toxic-allergic) erythema. Moreover, the symptomatic form occurs only in one-fifth of all patients with exudative erythema.

disease Until now, the exact causes of an infectious-allergic form of the disease have not been resolved.
There is a high probability that the cause of exudative erythema is focal infection. This may be chronic appendicitis, pulpitis, sinusitis, etc. This factor is detected in about 70% of all patients.
Such patients show a high sensitization( sensitivity) to various infectious agents - E. coli, staphylococci, and others. During the relapse of exudative erythema in patients, there is a decrease in the body's resistance, a decrease in T-cell immunity.
Thus, the main reason for the development of this form of multiform erythema is the development of an immunodeficiency state, which, in turn, is caused by:
- chronic infection;
- infection with a viral infection;
- Helium-Magnetic Effects.
The reason for the appearance of toxic-allergic varieties of exudative erythema is the administration of drugs. Most often, such a reaction of the organism is observed on the reception of barbiturates, preparations of the tetracycline series, sulfanilamides.

Clinical picture of
Symptoms and manifestations of erythema depend on the form of the disease.
When infectious-allergic varieties of erythema, the disease usually begins acutely. The first symptoms may resemble influenza, patients with exudative erythema begin to feel malaise, often have pain in the muscles, joints, nodules in the throat.
A day after the onset of the disease appears a chip, which is a characteristic symptom of exudative erythema. Rash appears on the skin and mucous membrane, less commonly affected by mucous membranes of the genital organs. Mucous membranes for multiforme erythema are affected in about a third of patients. The isolated lesion of the mouth( without rashes on the skin) is noted only in 5% of patients.
As a rule, after a few days after the onset of skin syndrome, general symptoms occur, however, the low temperature may last for several weeks.
Exudative erythema is characterized by the appearance of stains on the skin or flat papules, the color of rash is bright pink or red. The blooms quickly increase in size, their central part falls down and acquires a cyanotic color, while the peripheral edge protects the red color.
In some cases, blisters with clear or bloody contents may appear in the central part of the spots. Rarely, the appearance of bubbles on unchanged skin.
Rashes with exudative erythema are localized on the skin of feet, bristles, legs, forearms.
In case of lesion and mucous membrane, exudative erythema has a more severe course. The rash in this case is localized on the lips, the palate, the cheeks. First, edema occurs on the mucous membranes, then blisters appear. Soon they are revealed with the formation of extremely painful erosions, which are prone to merging into a large wound surface. Erosion can be covered with a grayish inflammation, which removes any surface of the mucous membrane begins to bleed.
Surface erosion is covered with bloody crust of different thickness, and in the case of secondary infection of the affected mucous peel become gray.
In some patients, exudative erythema defeat covers the whole of the mucous membrane of the mouth, and in others, there are single elements of rash.
A significant pain syndrome occurs in a large area of oral lesions. Patients with erythema multiforme can not normally open their mouth, this circumstance makes it impossible to speak and eat food. The presence of caries, parodontosis contributes to the strengthening of the process.
With multiform erythema, rashes that appear on the skin are allowed after 2 - 3 weeks. Rashes on mucous membranes do not heal in 4 - 6 weeks.
In most cases, erythema multiforme has a recurrent course, exacerbations occur more often during periods of the off-season. Rarely, there are severe cases in which relapse of the disease follows one after another.
Symptoms of toxic allergic erythema differ little from those described above. With this form, rashes can be widespread or be fixed. In the first case, practically all patients have a defeat of the mucous membrane.
Important! With a fixed rash, the appearance of rashes necessarily occurs in those places where it was in the period of pre-exacerbation. In this case, the rash can spread to previously unaffected areas of the skin.
When toxic-allergic erythema most often affects the mucous membrane of the mouth, at the same time, there may be a rash on the skin, often the mucous membranes of the genital organs fall into the lesion area. With this form of exudative erythema rarely, there are common general symptoms, the temperature appears, as a rule, simultaneously with the appearance of rash.
Diagnosis of multiform erythema is based on careful study of the clinical picture of the disease. In the event that rashes appear on the skin, the diagnosis is rarely difficult. It is much more difficult to conduct a diagnosis if the area of injury was only oral cavity, as in this case, the symptoms are similar to other diseases of the mucous membrane.
The characteristic signs of exudative erythema include:
In some cases, the symptoms of erythema multiforme are reminiscent of syphilis. To exclude the presence of an infection, conduct a blood test and other specific tests that allow the detection of a pale treponemus.
Important! Treatment for exacerbation of multiform erythema should be aimed at relieving relapse, as well as preventing recurrence of an attack.
The treatment schedule in acute episodes of multiform erythema is selected depending on the clinical manifestations, that is, the treatment is symptomatic.
The main point in the treatment of the toxic-allergic form of erythema is the prompt removal of the substance that provoked such a reaction. In this case, a patient with multiform erythema is prescribed to receive diuretics, enterosorbents, abundant fluid intake.
In any form of exudative erythema, therapy is used to desensitize the body, that is, to reduce sensitivity. To do this, it is necessary to prescribe antihistamines - tavegila, suprastinum, and others.
Important! The appointment of antibiotics is indicated only if multiform erythema is complicated by secondary infection.
The local treatment of multiform erythema consists of the following measures:
Treatment of folk remedies
For the treatment of multiform erythema, medicines prepared with the use of healing plants can be used.
Effective for the treatment of exudative erythema arnica. This plant is still called a ram. From arnica you can prepare a broth for receiving inside, as well as a healing ointment.
To prepare the infusion you need to take a small volume thermos. Sprinkle in it two spoons of dry herbs or three times more fresh. Pour over boiling water( need two cups), close the thermos and insist on the day. Then it is necessary to prepare the infusion strain, drink at least 5 - 7 times a day on a teapot.
For the preparation of the ointment used in the external treatment of multiform erythema, it requires dry lamb roots( arnica). They are triturated to obtain a powder. Mix 100 grams of powder with the same amount of melted pork fat. Warm up at low heat for three hours. Use a cooled ointment to smear affected skin.
Prevention and Prognosis
Prognosis for exudative multiforme erythema is generally favorable. The danger to the patient's life is only such severe complications as Lyell's syndrome or Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Prevention of erythema multiforme is to timely rehabilitate foci of infection, as well as the exclusion of the use of drugs and especially antibiotics without the appointment of a doctor.
