Family: Cypress. Species: coniferous shrubs. Species: Microbiot( Latin Microbióta). This coniferous shrub, with horizontally swaying graceful branches, is raised or drooping at the ends. The height of the bush is not more than half a meter, the width of the crown is 2 meters. The branches of the shrub have a lot of branches of, slightly flattened and similar to the branches of thuja. Leaves( needles) are small, scaly, oppositely arranged.
Hvyinka young plants and shoots that grow in the shade, often ragged, needle shaped. In adult plants leaves are similar to scales and pressed to the barrel. The length of the leaf is 1-2 mm. In the fall of the leaves, the mycobiots acquire a brown tint with a bronze tint. Fruit: small dry cones.
Microbiota belongs to two-headed plants. On one shrub there are flowers in the form of cones of both male and female.
Male cones are very small, consist of 5-6 pairs of scales that store pollen. Located mainly at the ends of the shoots. Women's cones are several more men's rounded shapes with a diameter of about 5 mm. They "sit" on short shoots and consist of one or two pairs of woody thin scales. When ripe, these scales unfold, exposing large seeds of round shape with a spout.
Cones in microbiota are not formed annually, very small and therefore difficult to see. Therefore, for a long time scientists of the botanists could not come to a common opinion about the sex of this plant. Microbiota refers to plants with a slower rate of growth. Every year its growth is no more than 3 cm.
Distribution of microbiota and its varieties
Shrub discovered in 1921.In the wild, it can be seen in the Far East( south of Sikhote-Alinya).The microbiota grows in mountainous regions, among the stones. Occurs in the upper forest zone, among the shrubs.
Crossbred Microbiota( M. decussata) is the only type of genus. This is a light-loving plant that prefers neutral or moderately moist fertile soils. It is well tolerated by the direct sunlight without sunlight burns. Not afraid of low temperatures. It is used to create ornamental garden compositions as a groundbreaking plant. It looks good in the lower tier of group compositions of coniferous plants.
There are 8 types of crossbred microbiota. All of them are obtained by breeding way and are quite rare plants that are under protection. In our country you can see only 2 of the 8 varieties of these evergreen shrubs.
Microfiber Gold Spot( Goldspot) - different in color of the branches. In the summer, they are light yellow. In the autumn-winter period, the color becomes more saturated.
Microblute Jakobsen( Denmark) - different bush density and vertical growth. Up to 10 years, the shrub reaches a height of half a meter. The shoots of the Jakobsen microbiota are distorted and covered with pointed, needle-shaped leaves - needles. For this feature the plant received from the local population the name "witch's broom".
