AglaonemaCare and Reproduction

For indoor floriculture indispensable unpretentious aglaonema, well tolerates insufficient lighting. This penny-loving plant grows willingly on the windowsills of the northern orientation and in the depths of the premises, the more care it is not burdensome.
Aglaonema is a representative of thefamily of Aroidae( Araceae). As indoor plants, six species are cultivated. They differ in life forms - from shrubbery to herbaceous, in color and in the shape of leaf plates. They are united by the fact that they are practically identical in their care. When choosing a particular variety, each person is guided by his own aesthetic preferences, rather than botanical academic recommendations
Location and lighting
Under natural conditions, aglonema grows in the dark under the cover of tropical trees and does not tolerate direct sunlight. Even the short-term effect of the burning sun can cause burns and necrosis of the leaves. Exceptions are robin species. They need a bright light, but not straight, but scattered.
The agogonemy's unpretentiousness for home gardening is primarily due to the fact that the temperature of the contents at different times of year is the same. The optimum temperature is + 20-25 degrees, the lower limit is not lower than +16 degrees. When superheating the representatives of the Aroid family on their leaves may appear spots of rot, which spoil the appearance. They do not tolerate cold drafts.
Watering, humidity and nutrition
Aglanemy requires regular daily watering. The water should be cold, damp and soft. Wonderfully suitable rain and thawed water. Fatal as the overdrying of the soil, and the stagnation of water. In summer, abundant watering is required immediately after drying the surface layer, in the winter, watered less, about a day or two after drying the soil.
As the source of the humid tropics, aglonemy requires high humidity, the plants respond positively to such agrotechnical methods as humidifying air. At the same time there is an increase in their growth and the formation of larger leaves, so the hedgehog should be sprayed daily. If the room is cool, spraying should be stopped.
Soil in pots is depleted with prolonged plant cultivation, so twice a month it is necessary to make nutrition alternating with mineral and organic fertilizers. The smaller the dishes, the more often you have to feed your pets. When overgrowing aglaonema does not require fertilizers.
In young aglonium growth processes are activated, and not only the above-ground part is rapidly growing. The volume of the root system also increases and fills up the entire container, after which the plants are transplanted. As a rule, this happens once a year. Adult individuals do not need such a frequent transplant, this procedure is carried out once every 4-5 years.
The plant develops well on artificial environments in hydrogel and hydroponics. The normal composition of the soil mixture should be fairly light and porous, well passing water and oxygen to air. To prepare the soil, take two pieces of leaf soil, one part of peat and sand, add a pinch of charcoal. Mandatory requirement - the presence of good drainage to prevent stagnation of water.
You can breed aglonome throughout the vegetative period. The plant should be high enough and healthy. Most often multiplied by the division of the mother plant - the most simple and natural way, root offspring, stem and cuttings and seeds. The last two methods are more labor-intensive and long-lasting.
A vegetative reproduction method helps to preserve the characteristics of the maternal variety, it is beneficial for the reproduction of specimens that have unique decorative features.
From the strong erect stem cut the upper part of the shoots. The cuttings are powdered with charcoal or 2-3 tablets of activated charcoal. Meanwhile, mix sand and peat in a ratio of 1: 1.The substrate moisturizes and planting cuttings with two buds of recovery to a depth of about 4-5 sm. Rooting of cuttings is better in a mini-greenhouse or a freckle with a light on the mechanical composition and fertile soil. Therefore, at home, the capacity of the sprouts is covered with a transparent cap or polyethylene. At room temperature additional roots are formed within a month.
In the case of seed reproduction, it is necessary to take into account the fact that seed germination is rapidly lost, there is no sense in their storage. Therefore, purchased seeds do not always sprout. The ideal way is to plant your own, extracted from fruits and berries with a fleshy outer layer. Moreover, the fruit must completely ripen.
Immediately, after removing from the pulp, the oval seeds are washed and planted in the same soil mix as for cutting. If they are kept in the heat, maintaining the necessary humidity and implementing the necessary watering, then soon enough turn the stairs. When 2-3 true leaves of seedlings appear, they can be diced and planted in small containers. And then transplant in flower pots of greater volume to a permanent place.
With this method, it is impossible to find out that the "unknown animal" will appear from the sprout. The main disadvantage of sexual reproduction with the help of seeds is that the original signs of the maternal variety are lost.
