A special place in pigeon-laying is occupied by birds of high-end breeds. They flock to the sky and can stay there for hours, pleasing the spectators with the charming manners of flight and easily performing aerobatics. One of the most famous species of birds with suchcharacteristics is derived in the city of Mykolaiv( Ukraine) and received the same name as the breed. Her distinctive feature is the ability of the birds to climb upright, and Mykolaiv's face pigeons hold in this plane not only the torso but also the wings.

What kind of species became the progenitors of Mykolayiv pigeons is not definitely known. According to one version of the origin of the birds, originates in ancient Greece, the other one shows that their ancestors are the Polish white-tailed pigeons with the flying style of the "butterfly".The first mention of this breed dates from the late 18th century, with the birds being bred for meat production. At that time, their flying characteristics were not recognized as significant, so officially feathered as high-age registered only in 1910.
Nikolaev Pigeons skyrocket rapidly, and then dropped down with folded wings. Therefore, in English-speaking countries, birds are called Sky Cutters, which is translated as "Tuscany".On average, the representatives of this breed are in the air for about an hour, although with proper training, the flying time of birds can reach 7 - 9 hours.
Today, pigeons of Nicholas' high-end breed take part in many competitions and occupy worthy places. So, at the first world championship in England, they received a gold medal. Birds are widespread in the Ukrainian and Russian coastal regions, and are now gaining increasing popularity among breeders from other cities. And this is not surprising, because the birds are considered the best among the circular( that is, climbing into the air in a straight line).Now there are many subspecies, the most famous of which are bred in Marininka, Krasnogorovets, Kurakhovka.
Interesting fact: in Poland, on the basis of the Nicholas pigeons, a red white-tailed breed, named after the Polish Orlicks, was taken out. They have completely taken from their ancestors the style of a circular flight. There are even a few clubs lovers of these birds.
Characteristic features of the
The Nikolayev type is characterized by a streamlined body shape, a thick dense plumage, moving wings with broad feathers and an elastic elastic tail. Due to this, pigeons in flight create their own large adjustable airbag ground, which together with developed muscles increases the time of being in the sky. Trained birds fly so high that it is difficult to see them with the naked eye.
A dove of Nikolayev breed prefers to fly alone. Having risen to the sky, he actively waving his wings, then steaming, like an eagle. Of course, this requires appropriate weather conditions. Thus, face pigeons fly upright vertically at a wind speed of 7 - 10 m / sec.
Standards for breed
The average length of a bird is 40 cm, the breasts are broad with advanced muscles, paws are short, without plumage. In standing position, the pigeon's body forms an angle of 40 - 45 ° to the ground. The appearance of the breed has the following features:
- oblong head with flat feathers, occipital area is not expressed;
- golden or orange eyes with a thin strip of the century;
- is a dense, slightly curved beak of medium size, has a proportional shape;
- shortly extends to the base of the neck, covered with a gun;
- convex muscular chest;
- is flat back, wide in the shoulder region and extends to the tail;
- long adhere to the body of the wing with strong feather feathers, located at the tail level;
- massive straight tail with a thick plumage, if necessary, unfolded in a semicircle;The
- has small paws of dark red color.
Despite the fact that the color of the Nicholas breed is quite diverse( pure white, solid, colored, ripple, spotty), it is mostly white-tailed pigeons. The exception is the "frozen" birds and Martini. They have colored spots not only on the body, but also on stubble feathers.
In all Nikolaev pigeons - white tail
Penny of Nicholas breed are divided into 4 groups, each of which has its own flying style.
- "The Lark".During the flight, the bird spreads the wings perpendicular to the body, making them quick vibrational movements resembling a lark. It periodically stops, freezing in the air.
- "Butterfly".The wings are pushed forward and make up a 30 ° angle from the trunk. In the "butterfly" style, the bird makes frequent blunders without interrupting the entire flight.
- Sparkling. This group includes the only representatives of the Nicholas breed, flying along the flat trajectory. As you can see from the name of the style, in the air they unfold their wings so that they become similar to the sickle in the form.
- Face. Immediately after departure, the birds raise their wings above their heads at right angles and carry out strong swings. Due to this, the pigeons flock to the sky strictly vertically.
So the untrained pigeon of this breed flies
The duration and beauty of the flight of pigeons of the Nicholas breed is affected by the oncoming wind. In the absence of a feather, they fly along a circular trajectory and may even fall. That is why birds are so widespread in coastal regions.
Training begins after a youngster reaches 1-1.5 months of age. The first training takes place in the enclosure, and then birds are gradually accustomed to take off from the roof of the dwarfs. When the birds are sufficiently mastered, they are released on a single flight. Do not overload pets. Maximum duration of classes - 6 hours with periodic interruptions, and such intensive training is subject only to sickle and face pigeons, because they are participating in competitions.
Optimal time to start training - morning hours."Tuchereza", in spite of its name, prefer clear weather. This is especially true for young animals. If the air is foggy, pigeons can lose orientation in space and fall.
Birds are kept in a clean, spacious room protected from dampness and drafts. In the winter period, males and females are separated, and at the end of February they unite again, and by the middle of spring there is a progeny.
The most important element of pigeon care is proper nutrition. The feed is given twice a day, giving preference to easily digestible species of cereals in the following proportions:
- wheat or oats 40 - 45%;
- corn, peas 40%;
- wheat 10%;
- Mixed Feed with Mineral Supplements and Vitamins 5%.
White-tailed Nicholas pigeons involve breeders not only with activity and vitality, but also with low maintenance requirements. Unlike other breeds, these birds quickly adapt to climatic conditions, have a good fertility and produce strong progeny. In addition, butterfly pigeons do not require serious training, so even newborns can grow them.
The flight of training pigeon
The pigeon pigeons of the Nicholas breed are prone to a number of infections. At the first signs of feather should be given antibacterial and antiseptic drugs, the type and dosage of which depend on the cause and severity of the disease. Their choice is better to entrust the veterinarian. In the absence of treatment, sick birds can infect other individuals and perish.
The main symptoms of infection in pigeons include sluggish apathy, digestive disorder, coordination of impairment and space orientation, seizures. Peppers clumsily conduct themselves in the air or completely refuse to fly. Any of these signs, even manifested independently, indicates a disease.
Pigeons of the Nicholas breed, like butterflies, flutter in the bottomless heights of the sky, and then dive with dizzying speed, subduing the hearts of observers. The flight of these birds is considered by law to be one of the most sophisticated and at the same time fascinating sights.
