Causes of the disease
The cause of foot mycosis is the infection with fungal infection. Most often the disease is caused by fungi of the genus Trichophyton rubrum or Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Mucosis develops much less when infected with Epidermophyton floccosum and yeast fungi. Recently, more and more often diagnoses mixed infections caused by several types of fungi.
Of course, getting a fungus on the skin does not say that a person will definitely develop mycosis foot. For the onset of the disease, there are factors that contribute to the development of the infection.
Most often, foot mycosis develops in the following population groups:
- People with reduced immune status.
- In patients with diabetes mellitus and other endocrine disorders.
- For people with pathology of the hematopoietic system.
- For people with veins and blood vessels.
- For the elderly.
In addition, mycosis of the foot, like most other fungal infections, requires certain conditions for development - a warm and damp environment. Therefore, those people who have a lot of sweat legs, dermatophytosis develops especially often.
Clinical picture of
Symptoms of mycosis feet are quite characteristic. The skin in the places of defeat is reddened, peeling, and patients experience severe itching. Especially often the fungus affects the skin of the interdigital folds. Nail plates may also be affected, sometimes the ball hairs are involved in the process.
Since the foot dermatophytosis causes a severe itching, the resulting comb is a "gate" for the addition of an additional infection, most often bacterial.
The associated infection causes the complication of foot mycosis - inflammatory processes in the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
Clinical forms of the disease
Depending on the location of the pathological process and its intensity, five clinical forms of foot mycosis are distinguished. One patient may develop one of them, recently the frequency of cases of combination of several forms has increased at the same time, therefore, onychomycosis proximal and white surface onychomycosis can develop simultaneously with the foot mycosis.
Stenated form of mycosis is the easiest. It manifests itself in peeling the skin between the third and fourth toes, sometimes on the lateral surfaces of the feet. Sometimes there are minor inflammatory reactions. Cracks may appear on the affected skin.
In an intertriginous form of mycosis, the lesion of the skin of the foot resembles hypocrisy. Between the fingers there is maceration of the skin, the appearance of bubbles may occur. After bubble separation, erosions and cracks appear, surrounded by a rim from the swollen epidermis. This form of mycosis is accompanied by a severe itching, with deep cracks and erosion - a pain. Often during dermatophytosis complicated by a pyococcal infection, the process is more complicated by bullous streptodermia or inflammation of the pelvic region.
For the disgidrotic form of mycosis, the skin of the arch of the foot, as well as their lateral surfaces, is affected. Small bubbles appear on the skin, which eventually increase in size, forming large cavity multi-chamber elements.
If a bacterial infection is added to the fungal infection, then the transparent contents of the bubbles are replaced by purulent. The appearance of bubbles is accompanied by a feeling of pain and itching. After their opening on the skin are formed large erosion. As the erosion process eritizes, they are epithelized, but peeling of the skin persists for a long time. This form of foot mycosis is often complemented by the appearance of allergic rashes on the hands of hands.
Acute form of mycosis infection is relatively rare. As a rule, it develops in the event of a sharp aggravation of one of the aforementioned forms of the disease. Such a development of the disease is possible with improper treatment, which leads to an increase in inflammatory processes in the affected tissues. In addition, the transition to an acute form of mycosis is possible with increased sweating of the feet, constant maceration, the appearance of scratches.
The disease begins with the appearance on the skin of the foot, and in consequence and on the shins a large number of bubbles. The skin is swollen, hyperemic. Rashes appear on the skin of the hands and forearms, these rashes have allergic genesis, the elements of the fungus in them does not manifest. After the resolution of the bubbles on the skin, large erosions are formed, which, together, form extensive wet surfaces with exudative or purulent discharge. Myocytosis in acute form is accompanied by a violation of the general health, severe pain in the places of injury. There is an increase and pain of the femoral and inguinal lymph nodes.
In the case of squamous hyperkeratosic form of mycosis on the skin of the foot, one can observe thickening of the stratum corneum. It can be diffuse or focal. The affected areas may be reddish, the skin on them is strongly peeled off with the separation of small scales. Due to this skin the foot looks powdery. Cracks that appear in the lesion's cells cause severe pain, and patients with this form of mycosis experience severe itching.
The basis of the diagnosis of mycosis stop - the study of clinical manifestations and conducting laboratory tests of pathological material. In microscopic studies, the fungus is detected and its appearance is determined.
Treatment of foot mycosis should be done in a comprehensive manner. Patients are prescribed antifungal agents for systemic and local use. Selection of drugs is carried out depending on the type of fungus and its sensitivity to various drugs.
Treatment of foot mycosis is long lasting. All doctor's recommendations should be followed, even if no external symptoms are present. Unfinished, interrupted before the course of treatment leads to the development of relapse.
In the presence of contraindications to the use of antimycotics systemic action, as well as, in the case of defective mycosis of minor areas of the skin of the foot, limited to the use of only external funds.
If foot mycosis is complicated by bacterial infections, antibiotics are additionally prescribed. In severe edema, hyperemia, the use of compresses and lotions with disinfectants and astringents is recommended.
Treatment with folk remedies
With fungal infections folk healers recommend:
- Conduct baths with addition of sea salt and a small amount of table vinegar. Useful in mycosis baths with a decoction of celandine.
- Lubricate the places of defeat with milk juice, a mixture of carrot juice and table vinegar.
Forecast and prevention of
Prevention of infection with fungal infection is to comply with hygiene requirements. Do not go barefoot in public baths, should wash your legs regularly, wear sneakers in air, fight with sweating.
Forecast for mycosis of feet with timely treatment is favorable.
In the absence of treatment or inappropriate therapy, the disease can lead to dangerous complications.
